Germaine offered a nod.

“Where does it lead to?” Thomas asked.

“According to the schematics, it leads to the back section of the colony, heading to the mountains.”

“How long is the walk out of the tunnel?”

Germaine raised her eyebrows. “About 15 minutes. What are you thinking?”

A wicked smile curled around Thomas’ lips.

THIRTY-THREE

UFP Space Command,

Earth

Jones stared at the list of names of those who had joined UFP Space Command. He had highlighted and circled the name of Officer Malloy from the list. Jones scratched his head. There was nothing on the list that made Malloy stand out from the rest. He had been an ordinary officer. Although Jones had expected to uncover something, Malloy’s approvals had also been straightforward. Jones could only presume that Malloy had been abducted prior to arriving at UFP Space Command and replaced by the male Vartok being held in Level 17. However, to accomplish such a swap, the Vartok species would have needed inside intelligence, which pointed to more spies working for the enemy. If not, the chances of the Vartok species identifying Malloy would have been minimal. The Vartok species would have needed to know who Malloy was and what his role was going to be within UFP Space Command. That, itself, spoke volumes on the level of infiltration by the enemy. Jones still found it hard to swallow. All these years the Vartok species had been planning this infiltration, but no one in the intelligence community had picked up on it. Not a single person. It was a complete breakdown in the system with serious repercussions. Why had humanity become so complacent? There was a knock on the door and Director Chong, UFP Intelligence stepped in. Jones motioned for him to a chair, hoping to find answers to his question.
